KSPHCMB Inaugurates LGAs LEMCHIC

Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board has Inaugurated local Government Emergency Maternal and Child Health Intervention Centers  (LEMCHIC) in the 44 local Government areas in the state.

In his remarks at the orientation and inauguration of the Program, the Executive Secretary of Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board Dr. Tijjani Hussaini highlighted the terms of Reference which include, coordinating NGOs, CSOs, women support groups, traditional and religious leaders within the RMNCAH+N landscape and ensure accountability at all levels of implementation, development of work plan that covers local Government Area, Ward and Health facility activities in line with the state emergency plan for Maternal and Child Health Intervention, Providing guidance and oversight to wards and health facilities in the implementation of strategies.

The Executive Secretary further stated that other terms of Reference involved monitoring and tracking implementation with a focus on low-performing wards and identifying bottlenecks, fostering community participation in the implementation of activities and addressing bottlenecks through close collaboration with WDCs, religious and traditional rulers, ensuring accurate collection RMNCAH+N data at the facility level, collation at ward level and timely reporting to The local emergency maternal and child health intervention as well as to ensure timely reporting of maternal and neonatal death that occur at in community and PHCs.

He then urged the coordinators to ensure what they have learned during the orientation program, especially in tackling maternal and child mortality in their respective local Government areas as well as calling on them to justify the confidence repose on them in ensuring the success of the program.

In his remarks, the State Program Manager of State Maternal and Child Health Intervention Dr. Fara’u Abdulsalam explained that the aim of the Program is to promote awareness and ensure an effective emergency response to maternal and child health mortality that addresses the delays to care through an integrated approach.

And added that, since the inception of the SEMCHIC program in the state a lot has been achieved which includes, harmonization and finalization of the state emergency maternal and child health intervention work plan, conducting an advocacy visit for the engagement with the screening team for clinical mentors, a compilation of application for clinical mentors, training of health care workers on maternal child health as well as inauguration and Orientation of the Local Government areas LEMCHIC Coordinators.

He, therefore, called on the coordinators to ensure the smooth success of the program in their various areas of assignments.

Earlier in their separate remarks, the Representative of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency Musa Hashim,  State Technical Expert of the Lafiya Project Malam Salisu Kabara, and Malam Ahmad Tijjani Yau ‘representative of Kano State-Led Accountability Mechanism (KanSLAM) both commended the Executive Secretary of the Board for his foresight and commitment for the upliftment and moving the Board forward.
