Kano State Government through the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), has uncovered and removed 8,875 ghost enrollees from 10 high-volume healthcare facilities in the metropolis, leading to a significant cost-saving of ₦42,600,000.

In a statement, on Monday, KSCHMA spokesperson, Aminu Ahmad Turaki, said the discovery is part of an ongoing effort to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the state healthcare system.

According to the statement, the fraudulent enrollees were identified during a comprehensive audit and verification exercise to ensure that only genuine beneficiaries receive healthcare services under the state contributory health scheme.

Speaking on the development, the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to preventing financial leakages and improving service delivery for legitimate enrollees.

“This achievement reflects our determination to eliminate fraudulent activities and ensure that every kobo allocated for healthcare reaches the intended beneficiaries.

“The savings realized will be reinvested into expanding access to quality healthcare services for the people of Kano State,” she stated.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has prioritized healthcare reforms, including digitalizing enrollees’ records, strengthening monitoring mechanisms, and conducting routine data validation exercises.

Dr. Rahila assured that further investigations and verification exercises will be conducted in all facilities under the KSCHMA healthcare scheme.
