To enhance the delivery of HIV and tuberculosis (TB) services in Kano State, the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KSACA), led by its Director General, Dr. Usman Bashir, has conducted an on-site assessment at Waziri Gidado Hospital.
The visit, which followed resolutions from the recent HIV/TB Technical Working Group meeting, highlighted key service gaps affecting the effective management of HIV and TB care. One of the major challenges identified was the lack of functional X-ray services.
Although an X-ray machine had been donated to another TB facility, that center lacks a stable power supply and trained personnel to operate the equipment.
To address this, KSACA is considering relocating the machine to Waziri Gidado Hospital, where the power supply is more reliable.
The assessment also revealed that the hospital’s HIV clinic remains incomplete, creating barriers to quality service delivery.
To resolve this, KSACA plans to collaborate with the Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) and the Department of Physical Planning to design and build a fully functional HIV-TB clinic within the hospital premises.
The visit further involved technical discussions with the hospital management on long-term solutions for service improvement.
Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Bashir reaffirmed KSACA’s commitment to closing critical gaps in HIV and TB service delivery across Kano State.
He stressed that tackling infrastructure and technical shortcomings is vital to expanding access and improving care for patients.
The intervention represents another step in KSACA’s efforts to integrate HIV and TB services, ensuring that no patient is left behind in the state’s ongoing response to both epidemics.
