To ensure smooth traffic flow during the upcoming Yuletide season, the Kogi State Government has embarked on proactive measures to avert potential gridlock along the Lokoja–Abuja highway.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, represented by the State Security Adviser, Commander Duro Jerry Omodara, led a delegation comprising security chiefs, officials from the federal and state ministries of works, and the Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on an assessment tour of the major bad portions of the road.
The inspection was carried out to ensure that necessary repairs are completed before the heavy December traffic begins.
Commander Omodara noted that the exercise was aimed at preventing the perennial gridlock experienced during the festive season and guaranteeing a free flow of vehicles.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ongoing infrastructural projects in the state, particularly the Lokoja–Koto–Abaji road, describing the work as “quality and commendable.”
“Following resolutions from the State Executive Council Meeting, we decided to inspect the road to assess its readiness for Christmas traffic,” Omodara said.
He added that the goal was not only to avoid gridlock but also to support the Federal Government’s ongoing road construction efforts by collaborating with relevant stakeholders to create alternative passages where necessary.
Engr. Frank Renzo, representing the construction company, Trucrete Solutions Ltd., expressed appreciation for the visit and pledged to ensure the road is motorable during the Yuletide season.
He assured that blocked sections would be opened and damaged spots fixed before the surge in December traffic.
The FRSC Kogi State Sector Commander, Tenimu Yusuf Etuku, emphasized the strategic importance of Kogi as a major traffic hub, noting that a significant increase in vehicular movement is expected during the festive period.
He said all security agencies are working together to clear obstructions and maintain smooth traffic flow, adding that the FRSC would commence massive early deployment of personnel.
Similarly, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Alesan Olumide Ebenezer, stated that his officers would collaborate with the FRSC to ensure effective traffic management.
Key stakeholders present during the inspection included the Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Hon. Abdullahi Adamu; the Chairman of Kogi Local Government Area, Hon. Musa Abdulmalik; as well as security and media representatives from various organizations.
The Kogi State Government said the initiative is part of broader efforts to prevent security challenges and ensure a safe and seamless travel experience for commuters throughout the festive season.
