The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all the 21 chairmanship and 239 councillorship positions contested for in the local government elections conducted in Kogi State on Saturday, 17 October 2026.

The Chairman of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Hon. Mamman Nda Eri, announced the results at a press conference held at the Commission’s headquarters in Lokoja.

Hon. Eri said the elections held across 21 LGAs, 239 electoral wards and 3,508 polling units, were conducted in a peaceful, free, fair and credible atmosphere in line with the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission Law, 2025 and the Electoral Act, 2022.

According to him, collation of results from all 21 Local Government Areas has been concluded, with the APC emerging victorious in all chairmanship and councillorship contests.

“Having fulfilled all requirements of the law and having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are hereby declared winners and returned elected as Chairmen of the 21 Local Government Areas and Councillors of the 239 Wards of Kogi State,” the KOSIEC Chairman declared.

He commended political parties, security agencies, accredited observers, journalists, traditional rulers, civil society organizations and the electorate for their cooperation and peaceful conduct before, during and after the exercise.

He noted that the Commission had earlier carried out extensive voter education, stakeholder engagements and provided a level playing field for all 12 political parties cleared to participate in the polls, adding that no petition challenging the process was received before or during the election.

The KOSIEC Chairman said Certificates of Return will be issued to all elected Chairmen and Councillors at a later date to be communicated by the Commission.

He also lauded Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for providing the enabling environment, logistics and non-interference that allowed KOSIEC to discharge its constitutional mandate independently.

Saturday’s polls marked the end of the tenure of the outgoing Chairmen and Councillors sworn in on October 23, 2024, for a two-year tenure.

Observers described the election as one of the most peaceful grassroots elections in the state’s recent history, with impressive voter turnout reported in Lokoja, Okene, Kabba-Bunu, Dekina, Ankpa and other LGAs.

Reacting to the declaration, APC stakeholders in the state said the sweeping victory was a reflection of the people’s confidence in the administration of Governor Ododo and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
