The Managing Director of the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA), Arc. Hauwa Hassan T/Wada, has called for deeper collaboration between Local Government Councils and KNUPDA to enhance urban planning and promote sustainable development across the state.
She made this appeal when a delegation of Local Government Chairmen, led by Hon. Ogan Boye, Assistant Chairman of the Kano State Association of Local Government Chairmen, paid a courtesy visit to KNUPDA headquarters in Kano.
The visit aimed to strengthen synergy and coordination between the councils and the urban planning agency for improved service delivery and orderly growth.
In her remarks, Arc. Hauwa Hassan T/Wada underscored the need for continuous consultation and cooperation between the two levels of government, especially in granting development approvals.
She urged the chairmen to always liaise with KNUPDA before issuing any development authorization to ensure adherence to planning standards and prevent unregulated construction.
“Effective collaboration between KNUPDA and Local Government Councils is key to achieving a well-structured, safe, and sustainable Kano,” she said, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to supporting Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s vision of a modern and well-planned state.
Responding, Hon. Ogan Boye commended KNUPDA’s leadership for its openness and proactive approach to partnership.
He noted that the visit marked a new phase of cooperation, assuring that local councils would henceforth work hand-in-hand with KNUPDA in areas of development control, planning, and compliance.
He added that such collaboration would ensure that all urban development initiatives align with the governor’s goal of building a more organized and livable Kano.
The Director of Personnel Management at KNUPDA, Malam Salihi Yusuf Ibrahim, also welcomed the delegation, reaffirming the agency’s readiness to engage constructively with local councils and address their concerns promptly.
The visit ended on a positive note, with both parties pledging to institutionalize regular dialogue and joint action to foster coordinated and sustainable urban growth across Kano State.
