Kebbi State Government has significantly raised the monthly cash allocation to its four state-owned tertiary institutions from N10.5 million to N40 million, in a major boost aimed at strengthening the state’s higher education sector.

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Hon. Isah Abubakar-Tunga, announced the development during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, noting that the increased funding reflects Governor Nasir Idris’s strong commitment to the advancement of tertiary education in the state.

Abubakar-Tunga explained that before this approval, Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu, received N2 million monthly; College of Health Science and Technology, Jega, N1.5 million; College of Advanced and Legal Studies, Yauri, N5 million; and Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari, N2 million.

“Effective from May 2025, each of these institutions will now receive N10 million monthly as cash allocation,” the commissioner said.

In addition, the government has released approximately N96 million for the accreditation of seven programs at the College of Health Science and Technology, Jega, by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

The accredited courses include National Diploma (ND) in Community Health, Environmental Health, Health Information Management, Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health, Medical Laboratory, and Pharmacy Technician.

Abubakar-Tunga also revealed that about N36 million was released as an intervention to regularize 556 un-indexed students from the 2023/2024 academic session in the Departments of Community Health, Environmental Health, and Health Education at the same institution.

“The Governor understands that investment in higher education is crucial for developing skills, fostering innovation, and enabling academic research,” the commissioner said, quoting Governor Idris.

“Financing tertiary institutions remains a key priority for any government that is serious about education and development.”
