Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has assured parents of secondary school students of strengthened security measures to guarantee the safety of learners across the state.

The governor has commenced wide-ranging consultations with key stakeholders in the education sector aimed at reviewing and reinforcing security protocols in post-primary schools. This was disclosed in a statement by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru.

According to the statement, the consultations involve heads of security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, renowned educationists, and experienced security consultants.

The initiative follows the recent abduction of 25 female students from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, and is targeted at preventing a recurrence of such incidents.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of this year’s Kebbi State Qur’anic Recitation, Governor Idris, who was represented by his deputy, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, appealed to parents to cooperate with the government and remain patient as comprehensive security arrangements are being reviewed and strengthened.

The governor expressed optimism that the appointment of General Christopher Musa, with whom he said he shared a cordial and result-oriented working relationship during his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, would contribute significantly to addressing the challenge of armed banditry.

A former teacher, Governor Idris, conveyed his personal distress over the Maga incident and reiterated the importance of education. He also called on wealthy politicians and well-meaning individuals to support the state’s efforts to improve educational standards.

The state government, he said, plans to reopen schools once the ongoing security arrangements are concluded, underscoring his administration’s commitment to safeguarding education and ensuring the safety of students.

At the event, the Emir of Gwandu was represented by the Galadiman Gwandu, Ibrahim Bashar KKB; the Emir of Argungu by the Kunduda, Ibrahim Kwaido; and the Emir of Zuru by the Sadaukin Zuru, Abdullahi Idris Zuru.

Six participants from the Zuru Emirate emerged among the prize winners, receiving items including motorcycles, refrigerators, sewing machines, and complete sets of beds and chairs.
