Kebbi Dual Carriageway: Jega Shop Owners Get N1.5b Compensation

To ensure smooth traffic flow, the Kebbi State Government has paid the sum of N1.5 billion to owners of houses and shops in Jega town, whose buildings would be demolished to give way for the construction of a dual carriageway.

No fewer than 236 affected individuals who have been verified and documented, received cheques for various amount proportionate to quantified property.

The Chairman of the Compensation Committee, Arc. Aliyu Maude assisted by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands and Housing, TPL Abubakar Ahmad, distributed the Cheques to the beneficiaries under the supervision of the traditional ruler of Jega, Sarkin Kabin Jega, Muhammad Arzika Bawa, at his Palace on Tuesday.

The Chairman informed the affected persons that Governor Nasir Idris had set up the committee on compensation to pay owners of buildings to facilitate the execution of the project.

“We solicit for the cooperation of the entire Jega people to ensure the success of work.

“Kudos to His Excellency, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris for embarking on the construction of the dual carriage way to enhance the development of the town.

“After the payment exercise, the government has given two months to shop owners, other buildings and structures to evacuate,” Arc. Maude said.

The Permanent Secretary for Lands and Housing, Abubakar Ahmad, recalled that officials of the ministry have verified all affected individuals and took inventory of their numbers.

“The committee has made sure that only those verified are the rightful owners of affected buildings and duly presented with appropriate payment.

“The state government is paying compensation for more than 200 structures to be demolished,” he said.

The Traditional Ruler of Jega, Sarkin Kabin Jega, Muhammad Arzika Bawa, expressed happiness at the road construction.

“The project from Zaito, Sokoto road passing in front of the palace has experienced congestion over the years resulting to accidents with casualties.

“My joy knows no bounds in thanking Governor Idris for investing enormous resources in the construction of the dual carriageway for the benefit of our people.

“On completion, the new road will add value to the economic prosperity of Jega and its inhabitants, it is a big relief.

“I am appealing to the people to support the project, remain law abiding and follow due process in the pursuit of rights and privileges,” the monarch admonished.
