The Chairman of Kebbe Local Government Area in Sokoto State, Hon. Abdullahi Yarima, has expressed deep appreciation to the Minister of State for Works, Bello Mohammed Goronyo, for facilitating the swift approval of the rehabilitation of the collapsed Rara Bridge.

Stallion Times reports that on 8 August 2025, the busy highway trunk A Sokoto-Lagos road and the bridge had collapsed, forcing drivers and commuters to divert to Dakingari/ Bunza and Argungu before coming to Sokoto, an additional distance of over 80 Kilometers.

Hon. Yarima said the collapse inflicted severe hardship on farmers, traders, motorists, and commuters, who were forced to rely on longer and more dangerous alternative routes to reach markets and health facilities.

He noted that the incident nearly crippled the local economy, given Kebbe’s strategic importance as one of Sokoto’s major food-producing areas.

According to him, the intervention of the Minister of State for Works has brought much-needed relief to the people of Rara, Kuchi, and surrounding communities, who had been living in uncertainty since the bridge gave way.

The Chairman commended the Federal Ministry of Works for its quick response, describing it as proof of Minister Goronyo’s commitment to the welfare of rural communities.

He also lauded the Sokoto State Government for its concern and support during the crisis.

He recalled that Governor Ahmed Aliyu dispatched officials to assess the situation and provide immediate relief to stranded commuters, which reassured residents that their plight had not been ignored while awaiting federal intervention.

Hon. Yarima maintained that the collaboration between the state and federal governments has rekindled hope among the Kebbe people in purposeful leadership and responsive governance.

He emphasized that the rehabilitation of the bridge will not only restore free movement of goods and services but also boost agriculture, trade, and security in the region.

The Chairman urged residents to support government initiatives and safeguard public infrastructure, stressing that sustainable development can only be achieved through collective responsibility.

While thanking Minister Goronyo once again for his prompt action, Yarima prayed for the success of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration and encouraged him to continue prioritizing rural development projects that directly impact the lives of ordinary citizens.

He concluded that the rehabilitation of the Rara Bridge will stand as a historic milestone for Kuchi District, symbolizing the dividends of democracy and the value of responsive governance.
