Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has ordered the immediate suspension of three officials of the Babbar Ruga Reformatory Centre following their alleged involvement in the torture of an inmate, Usman Musa, which led to the amputation of his left hand and serious injury to the right.
A statement by Abdullahi Yar’Adua, Chief Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government, listed the suspended officials as the Principal, Abdulzahir Abubakar; Vice Principal, Bala Abubakar; and a porter, Yunusa Yusuf. Additionally, a casual staff member, Murtala Suleiman, has been dismissed for his role in the incident.
The governor also approved ₦970,000 to cover Musa’s medical bills and allocated ₦35 million for the procurement of a sensor-enabled prosthetic hand to aid his recovery and reintegration.
To prevent future occurrences, Governor Radda endorsed the full implementation of the committee’s recommendations to upgrade the facility in line with international standards for correctional management and inmate welfare.
The investigative committee, led by Special Adviser on Public Administration and Service Reforms, Alhaji Usman Isiyaku, will also oversee the reforms to ensure full compliance. The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting human rights and enforcing accountability across state institutions.
