Kano state government will soon benefit from ecological funds support to address erosion challenges
Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji, the House of Representatives Committee on Ecological Funds, Chairman and a Committee member from Zamfara State, disclosed on Tuesday in Kano.
He was on a special visit with other Honourable Members of the Ecological Funds Committee to see the real situation of the devastating erosion sites and write a report to the Federal government for quick intervention.
Hon. Jaji said: “We visited Kano State like any other states we have visited so far purposely to see the real situation by ourselves and the unpleasant conditions caused at the eroded areas and what we will do as a committee quickly to bring succour to the affected sites and also compile a comprehensive report for government urgent intervention, that is what we’re here for said the Chairman.”
He expressed worries about the devastating situation caused by the Erosion in some affected areas.
However, he expressed optimism that his committee would do everything possible without any further delays to articulate and compile a sound report for the government of the federation to intervene quickly.
Hon. Jaji also commended the state government and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in particular for their concern and unwavering commitment to addressing these challenges from escalation in some parts.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Rt. Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo, who conducted the Ecological Funds Committee of the National Assembly round to some eroded sites, reiterated how the erosion destroyed farmland, roads, property, and lives.
He appealed to the committee to act appropriately, having seen the reality by themselves, to submit their report and assessment of Kano’s situation on erosion for immediate intervention.
The areas visited include the Getso Erosion site in Gwarzo Local Government Area, Rarin in Dawakin Tofa, Bulbula Gayawa in Ungogo, and Kwankwasiyya City in Kumbotso Local Government respectively.
