The Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has raised concern over the increasing defacement of public infrastructure across the Kano metropolis through the indiscriminate posting of bills, posters, banners, and other promotional materials.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry noted that roundabouts, road medians, shoulders, flyovers, and landscaped public spaces have been particularly affected by the practice, which it described as detrimental to the state’s urban renewal efforts.
According to the Ministry, the indiscriminate display of posters and related materials undermines the aesthetic integrity of ongoing beautification and environmental regeneration projects.
It also contributes to visual pollution, damages infrastructure, and obstructs visibility along major traffic corridors.
The statement added that several roundabouts and green corridors within the state capital are currently undergoing landscaping, decorative enhancement, and ecological upgrades as part of a broader environmental sustainability and metropolitan revitalization drive under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The projects, it said, align with global best practices in climate-resilient urban design.
The Ministry, therefore, formally notified political actors, corporate organizations, event promoters, religious bodies, advertising agencies, and the general public that the unauthorized use of public infrastructure for posters and similar materials is strictly prohibited.
It warned that enforcement units have been directed to intensify surveillance to ensure compliance with environmental sanitation and urban management regulations.
Violators, the Ministry stated, will be sanctioned in accordance with existing laws and may be required to bear the cost of restoring damaged public assets.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a clean, orderly, and environmentally responsible Kano, the Ministry urged residents to support the government’s beautification initiatives by using designated advertising platforms and engaging the appropriate regulatory authorities where necessary.
