Kano to Launch Citizens Engagement Platform

Kano State Government will soon introduce a citizens engagement forum tagged “Kano Citizens Platform” to facilitate direct interaction between government functionaries and the public.

This was disclosed by the state Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Amb. Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya while addressing executive members of the Association of Online Media Guild, who paid a courtesy visit in his office.

He said the platform is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to transparency, openness, and accountability in running the affairs of the state.

Amb. Waiya further disclosed that the program is expected to be launched by the governor himself where citizens will be given other opportunities to interact with him directly.

He also told the online media guild that in line with Governor Abba Yusuf’s commitment to boosting rapport and mutually beneficial relationships with journalists in the state, the Ministry would provide training and technical support to online media as an encouragement to carry out their professional duties.

The Commissioner called for the partnership to fight fake news, misinformation, and disinformation in the media circle for the benefit of society while noting the power of media in building and destroying a society.

He assured the guild that the Ministry would collaborate with the Association to kick quacks from the profession.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Association who is also the publisher of Solacebase,  Comrd Abdullatif Jos said they were at the ministry to congratulate the Commissioner and assure him of their readiness to collaborate with him in the discharge of his assignment.

He said online media’s renewed commitment to reporting government programs was based on the appreciation of the antecedent of the Commissioner as a renowned and respected civil society activist.
