The Kano State Task Force Committee on Motor Parks and Other Public Spaces, under the leadership of its Chairman, Major Adamu Abubakar Usman (Rtd.), has paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, to discuss critical security issues affecting motor parks and other ancillary public places across the state.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the chairman explained that the Task Force was established to address the rising security challenges confronting the state and the country as a whole.
He noted that motor parks have been identified as major transit points for various criminal activities, including child trafficking, where children are conveyed from one location to another through commercial transport systems.
Major Usman further stated that the Task Force has also been charged with the responsibility of promoting a drug-free society, stressing that the free flow of illicit drugs within Kano State remains a serious concern.
According to him, motor parks have been used as channels for the transportation and distribution of drugs, thereby necessitating urgent and coordinated action.
“We are determined to checkmate activities within motor parks by engaging all relevant stakeholders to sanitize these spaces.
“Our goal is to establish a system where vehicles coming into and leaving Kano State are properly identified, along with the nature of goods and services they are conveying,” the Chairman said.
He emphasized that the visit was aimed at finding a workable and sustainable security framework through collaboration, adding that the Commissioner of Police, as the chief security custodian of the state, plays a central role in achieving this objective.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, acknowledged that a significant number of crimes in the state either originate from or terminate at motor parks.
He commended the Executive Governor of Kano State for establishing the Task Force Committee, describing it as a timely intervention.
“You have mentioned almost all the major security challenges confronting the state,” the Commissioner noted. “If these issues are effectively addressed, residents of Kano State will be able to sleep with their eyes closed.”
The Commissioner further confirmed that the Command records daily arrests related to drug trafficking and other criminal substances across the state.
He assured the Task Force of the Command’s full cooperation, stating that the Police will operate in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and will support any initiative that enhances the security of Kano State.
“Our doors are always open to all stakeholders committed to promoting peace and security in Kano State.
