No fewer than 66,446 children under the age of five are expected to benefit from a fresh round of polio immunization in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Primary Healthcare Coordinator in the area, Muktar Datti Gwarzo, disclosed this while flagging off the exercise at Hotoro NNPC Ward. He described the campaign as a critical intervention aimed at protecting children from polio, a disease known to cause lifelong disability.
According to a statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday by the Information Officer, Adamu Iliyasu Hotoro, the Primary Health Coordinator, disclosed the importance of maintaining proper environmental hygiene, noting that it plays a vital role in safeguarding public health and preventing the spread of diseases.
In his remarks, the Health Education Officer of Tarauni Local Government, Musa Abdullahi Shamakawa, said the council, in collaboration with international health organisations, has sustained efforts to ensure that all eligible children receive the required vaccines.
Similarly, the Executive Chairman of Tarauni Local Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Muhammad Sekure, urged parents and caregivers to present their children for the free immunization. He called for maximum cooperation with health workers to ensure the success of the exercise.
The chairman further assured residents that adequate personnel and logistics had been deployed to facilitate smooth implementation across the local government.
Also speaking, the District Head of Dan Lawan Kano, Bello Ado Bayero, represented by the Village Head of Hotoro NNPC, Alhaji Mustapha, pledged continued support in mobilizing the community and raising awareness on the importance of the immunization campaign.
The immunization exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to eradicate polio and improve child health outcomes in the state.
