The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced that preparations are in top gear to host the Union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in the city of Kano.
This was disclosed in a statement jointly signed by the Council Chairman, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, and the Secretary, Abubakar Shehu Kwaru, and made available to media organizations.
According to the statement, in line with constitutional provisions, the NEC meeting is scheduled to hold from Monday, August 11, to Wednesday, 13 August 2025.
Delegates from all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, are expected to participate. Barring any hitches, guests will begin arriving on Monday, 11 August.
Activities lined up for Tuesday, 12 August, include a media tour of ongoing projects by the current administration in Kano State, courtesy visits, a media parley with His Excellency, the Executive Governor, the technical session of the NEC meeting, and a Dinner/Award Night.
Participants are expected to depart on Wednesday, August 13, after a special meeting between the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, and veteran journalists in Kano.
The statement expressed appreciation for the financial support and unwavering cooperation of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, which have made the hosting of the NEC meeting possible.
It concluded with prayers for safe travels for all delegates and fruitful deliberations during the meeting.
