Kano State Executive Council (SEC) has approved a total sum of N38,698,282,407.94 for the execution of various projects and commitments spanning critical sectors of the state economy, reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive development and improved service delivery.
The Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, in a statement on Friday, said the approvals were reached after extensive deliberations at a recent council meeting, where key issues of governance and development were considered.
Education Sector
In a bid to strengthen the education sector and improve learning conditions, the Council approved N1,698,450,267.36 for the settlement of outstanding obligations to boarding school suppliers covering the 5th to 11th weeks of the first term of the 2025/2026 academic session under the Ministry of Education.
Council also approved N369,966,355.00 for the general rehabilitation of Government Secondary School, Mariri, and N375,000,000.00 for the procurement of 50,000 school bags for primary and secondary school students across the state.
Additionally, N1,329,700,162.60 was approved for the relocation and reconstruction of Maikwatashi and Danwaire Primary Schools to Gama C in Nassarawa Local Government Area.
Works and Infrastructure
To improve road networks and public infrastructure, several projects were approved under the Ministry of Works. These include N171,484,811.76 for the construction of Panda–Hamdullahi–Albasu–Sakwayen Dutse Road in Albasu Local Government Area, and N111,756,366.31 for the rehabilitation of Gani Earth Dam in Sumaila Local Government Area.
Council approved the termination and re-award of the Gwarzo–Tsaure–Tsanyawa Road project at N16,296,423,440.53. Other approvals include N455,148,526.12 for additional works along Airport Gate–Triumph Roundabout–Murtala Muhammad Way Flyover–KSIP Roundabout, and N591,280,670.48 for works along Airport Junction–Ashton Road–Club Road–Murtala Muhammad Way Roundabout.
The Council also approved N2,229,281,157.18 for the rehabilitation and asphaltic overlay of Murtala Muhammad Way through Bompai Road to Audu Bako Way, and N4,426,992,250.50 for the re-award of a 5-kilometre dualized road project in Karaye Local Government Area.
Further approvals include n916,158,333.33 for the construction of a Conference Centre at the Governor’s Lodge in Kwankwasiyya City, n141,077,362.09 for the construction of a Juma’at Mosque in Imawa, Kura Local Government Area, and n103,744,791.46 for the renovation of a burnt Juma’at Mosque, Islamiyya School and Imam’s House in Rimin Gado Local Government Area.
Water Resources
In the water sector, Council approved n182,123,135.25 for the construction of a water pipeline from Hotoro Flyover to Hotoro ARTV communities. It also approved n577,379,925.00 for the settlement of debts related to diesel supply and outstanding KEDCO energy bills.
Similarly, n398,257,991.20 was approved for the second phase of the 2025 Abba Kabir Yusuf Reach-Out Water Supply Projects to underserved communities across the state.
Health Sector
To enhance healthcare delivery at the grassroots, the Council approved n318,161,919.90 for renovation works and provision of equipment at Lamba Primary Healthcare Centre in Bichi Local Government Area.
Security
In a move to strengthen internal security, n483,750,000.00 was approved for the procurement of 300 Boxer motorcycles for the newly established Neighbourhood Watch Corps under the Ministry of Internal Security.
Agriculture
Under the Ministry of Agriculture, Council approved n1,488,368,870.00 for the construction of the Dangora–Masama–Dansoshiya rural feeder road, including a link road to Dansoshiya Dam in Kiru Local Government Area.
Land and Urban Development
The Council approved n6,819,254,905.20 for compensation to 5,015 property owners in Rimin Zakara under the Ministry of Land.
Office of the Secretary to the State Government
Council approved n130,679,500.00 for the fourth tranche of a capacity-building workshop on anti-corruption, financial fraud, leadership and ethical values in the workplace.
Policy Decisions
On policy matters, Council approved the engagement of the Neighbourhood Watch Corps into the state service and directed the Civil Service Commission and the Office of the Head of Civil Service to issue permanent and pensionable appointment letters.
It also approved the settlement of all pending certificates for contractors handling classroom construction projects across the 44 local government areas, with a directive that all projects be completed within one month.
Other approvals include the appointment of management and board members of the Kano State Mining Company, a comprehensive review of the Qualifying Examination Policy, settlement of outstanding Earned Academic Allowance for academic staff of Northwest University, Kano, and the implementation of measures to eradicate street begging, to be led by the Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with relevant MDAs.
Council further approved the revocation of contracts for the construction of 5-kilometre roads in Makoda, Doguwa and Fagge Local Government Areas due to contractors’ negligence.
Presentations and Awards
The Council also witnessed presentations, awards and courtesy visits, including the formal introduction of the new Vice Chancellor of Northwest University and the presentation of Kano State as the Best Performing State at the 2025 National Agricultural Show.
Other recognitions included the Best Governor Award on Youth and Sports Development, the National Peace Award as Beacon of Peace in the Northwest, and awards of excellence from various national bodies.
The approvals and policy decisions, the Council noted, demonstrate the Kano State Government’s resolve to drive infrastructure renewal, human capital development and sustainable growth across all sectors.
