To strengthen security and expand employment opportunities for its teeming youth, the Kano State Government has engaged key federal ministries to advocate for increased recruitment slots in the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and other paramilitary agencies.

A high-powered delegation led by the Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties, Rt. Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo, paid a working visit to the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in Abuja.

The visit, according to Garo, aimed to deepen intergovernmental collaboration and ensure Kano State indigenes are adequately represented in federal recruitment exercises.

He emphasized the state’s commitment to working with relevant agencies to secure more placement opportunities for qualified candidates from Kano.

“We are here to advocate for increased recruitment quotas for our youths in line with federal guidelines,” the Commissioner said, adding that the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Guidance and Counselling Board would work closely with recruitment agencies under the Ministries of Defence and Interior to actualize the plan.

The delegation included Ado Danjummai Wudil, Executive Secretary, Guidance and Counselling Board; Ibrahim Mohammed Kabara, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties; Ibrahim Abdulkarim, Director, Administration and General Services; and Murtala Iliyasu, Director of Guidance.

In their separate remarks, both Ministers praised the Kano Government for its foresight and proactive engagement.

They stressed the need for stronger federal-state cooperation to boost national security and youth empowerment.

Badaru and Dr. Tunji-Ojo assured the delegation that Kano’s concerns would be given due consideration, pledging support to ensure the state receives a fair share of federal recruitment opportunities reflective of its population size and strategic importance.
