The Open Government Partnership (OGP) process in Kano State has recorded fresh progress toward strengthening transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance following a multi-stakeholder meeting convened by the OGP Secretariat.

The Head of Secretariat, Musaddiq Kabir Adam, in a statement on Tuesday, commended stakeholders for their continued support and collaboration in advancing open and accountable governance in the state.

According to the statement, the engagement brought together representatives of government and civil society, providing a platform to deliberate on key reform priorities.

It also formally acquaints the newly constituted State Actors Steering Committee with ongoing initiatives under the OGP framework.

Crucially, the meeting created an opportunity for members of the outgoing Civil Society (CS) Steering Committee to engage directly with incoming government officials.

This, stakeholders noted, would help preserve institutional memory, ensure continuity of reform commitments, and build a shared understanding of achievements and challenges in the reform process.

A key outcome of the meeting was a resolution by the state CS Steering Committee to initiate the election process for new members following the completion of its tenure.

The move is aimed at ensuring balanced representation and strengthening collaboration with the newly inaugurated Government Steering Committee, in line with OGP global standards and co-creation principles.

The Secretariat disclosed that preparations for the electoral process are already underway, with all necessary logistics being put in place.

The elections are expected to be concluded before the end of the month.

It reaffirmed its commitment to overseeing a free, fair, and credible process that will produce a diverse representation of non-state actors, including civil society organizations, community-based groups, the private sector, media, academia, and development partners.

According to the Secretariat, the transition is designed to go beyond routine leadership change, ensuring that incoming members inherit the momentum and institutional knowledge needed to sustain and accelerate implementation of the State Action Plan.

The Secretariat also called on stakeholders across the non-state sector in Kano State to prepare for the forthcoming elections, assuring that further details on the process would be communicated in due course.
