The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Friday commenced activities for its 2025 Press Week with a special prayer session held at the Union Secretariat.

The session, led by renowned Islamic scholar Malam Gwani Nasir, attracted a large turnout of journalists, including the Council Chairman, Comrade Suleiman Dederi, Vice Chairman, Mustapha Gambo, and executives from various chapels under the council.

During the session, chapel leaders and members offered prayers for the success of the union, seeking God’s protection, harmony, and wisdom for journalists as they discharge their duties.

They also prayed for a prosperous year ahead, marked by stability, professional growth, and strengthened unity within the media community.

Speaking after the prayer, Comrade Dederi said beginning the Press Week with supplication was a deliberate effort to thank God for His guidance and to reflect on the resilience and sacrifices of journalists in Kano and across the country.

He urged practitioners to remain committed to ethical reporting, accuracy, and responsible journalism, while also continuing to pray for the development of the union and the media industry.

Comrade Dederi outlined activities lined up for the week-long celebration, including a courtesy visit to the psychiatric hospital, a novelty football match between the NUJ team and the Kano State House of Assembly, a capacity-building workshop, the commissioning of the Kano Online office, and an award ceremony to honour exemplary media professionals.

The Chairman encouraged members and the public to participate fully in the scheduled events, noting that the Press Week provides a platform to celebrate excellence, professionalism, and unity in the journalism profession.
