The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended the appointment of its immediate past Chairman, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, as a National Trustee of the Union, describing it as well-deserved and timely.

In a statement jointly signed by the Acting Chairman, Comrade Mustapha Gambo Muhammad, and the Secretary, Abubakar Shehu Kwaru, the Council congratulated Comrade Ibrahim for achieving such a significant milestone, just months after completing his two-term tenure.

The Council noted that the appointment did not come as a surprise, citing Comrade Ibrahim’s unwavering dedication, humility, integrity, and inclusive leadership during his six years in office, qualities that elevated the profile of the Kano NUJ and made it a model across the country.

While wishing him success in his new role, the Council urged him to put his vast knowledge, wisdom, and experience to bear in supporting the Union’s progress and upholding its noble reputation as the “Voice of the Voiceless.”

The statement also offered prayers for divine guidance and protection for the newly appointed National Trustee, the National Working Committee, and all NUJ members across Nigeria.

The Council extended its gratitude to the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, and his Deputy, Dr. Abimbola Oyetundi, for selecting one of Kano’s own for the role, describing the decision as a demonstration of respect, honour, and confidence in both the appointee and the Kano Council.

It concluded by expressing confidence that Comrade Ibrahim will offer sound counsel to the Union’s top leadership and contribute meaningfully to advancing the Union’s goals.
