The Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Disabled, in collaboration with the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (ROLAC II) Programme, has developed a three-year strategic plan to strengthen support for vulnerable groups in the state.
This was developed in a two-day workshop was held from Tuesday to Wednesday at Tahir Guest Palace.
The workshop brought together stakeholders from the ministry, development partners, and key experts to chart a new path for effective service delivery to women, children, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The focus of the workshop was the need for a clear, actionable roadmap that ensures optimal use of scarce government resources while focusing on long-term impact.
Ibrahim Bello, the State Project Coordinator of the ROLAC Programme, emphasized the importance of the strategic plan in guiding the ministry’s work.
“This roadmap will help the ministry prioritize its activities and maximize resources. Government resources are always scarce, so having a plan in place will enable them to act quickly when the time comes for budget submissions,” he said.
According to Bello, the plan will help the ministry focus on critical areas such as access to justice for vulnerable groups.
“This ministry represents women, children, and people with disabilities groups that are often overlooked.
“With a well-articulated plan, we can ensure that their needs are met and their voices heard,” he added.
Yakubu Mohammed, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the Ministry, stressed that the strategic plan will provide structure and direction to the ministry’s activities.
“It is not enough to have programs or funds. We need to ensure there’s value for money and that service delivery is effective. This plan allows us to organize our targets and focus on our goals,” he explained.
Mohammed noted that grassroots communities will see tangible results from the strategic plan in the coming years.
“We expect improved service delivery across the 44 local government areas of Kano. Women, children, and people with disabilities will have increased access to economic opportunities, employment, and self-reliance,” he said.
On her part, Bilkisu Jibrin, Director of Women at the Ministry, highlighted how the plan will address long-standing challenges women face, including marginalization, inaccessibility to opportunities, and vulnerability during crises.
“Women are among the most affected groups. This plan will amplify their voices, help them access opportunities, and allow them to actively participate in governance,” she said.
She expressed appreciation to both ROLAC and the Kano State Government for supporting the initiative.
“This partnership is a major step toward uplifting the lives of women in the state,” she added.
