Kano State Government has called on residents to present their priority development needs through ward heads and councillors for proper consideration and implementation.

The State Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Dr. Abdulkadir Abdussalam, appealed on Thursday during a town hall meeting in Dala Local Government Area.

He was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Musbahu Ahmad Badawi.

Dr. Abdussalam explained that the initiative was designed to gather grassroots demands in line with the directive of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

He noted that as Kano continues to grow in size, population, and economic activities, the government must remain proactive in delivering infrastructure and policies that will sustain peace and drive development.

According to Badawi, citizens’ requests will be documented in a central data system, supported by a special mechanism to ensure proper handling.

He added that a Rural Development Summit will be convened to evaluate the submissions, clarifying which projects fall under the responsibilities of local governments, the state, the federal government, or donor agencies.

Speaking at the event, Surajo Ibrahim Imam, Chairman of the Dala Local Government Council, praised the initiative as a people-driven process that prioritizes community needs over leadership preferences.

He urged that ward heads be supported with offices, mobility such as motorcycles, and allowances to strengthen their engagements.

In the same vein, the Council’s Director of Administration and General Services, Bakari Abba, encouraged residents to actively identify meaningful projects within their communities.

At the same time, the District Head of Gobirawa and Dan Amar of Kano, Aliyu Harazumi, stressed the need for office provision to traditional leaders to enhance service delivery.

He also prayed for Allah’s guidance in the successful implementation of the programme.

The event was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Rural and Urban Development, security agencies, directors, councillors, advisers, and other dignitaries.
