The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has taken disciplinary action against several judicial officers and staff over various acts of financial misconduct and unethical behaviour.
In a statement by Judiciary spokesperson, Baba Jibo Ibrahim, the commission announced the demotion of Shamsu Maul’ainaini, Judge of the Upper Shari’a Court, Durbunde, after finding him guilty of corruption and financial misconduct in a case before him. Maul’ainaini was downgraded to the registrar cadre by one grade level and cautioned against tampering with case files.
The JSC also condemned the conduct of retired Upper Shari’a Court Judge, Munzali Tanko, who allegedly continued to preside over court proceedings nine days after his retirement. The commission described his action as unethical and harmful to the integrity of the judiciary.
At its 86th meeting, the commission approved a series of disciplinary measures against other erring officials. Isa Yuguda Wudilawa, Principal Registrar, was demoted from Grade Level 12 to 10 for diverting official funds into his personal account.
Similarly, Alkali Ibrahim Isah Usman, Presiding Judge of the Bebeji Shari’a Court, received a strong warning and had his promotion deferred for one year after he prematurely executed a judgment before the statutory 30-day appeal period.
In another case, Ibrahim Salim, Clerk of the Upper Shari’a Court, Rijiyar Lemo, was dismissed from service for forgery, falsification of court records, and bribery.
The commission commended Alkali Ali Jibrin Danzaki, Presiding Judge of the same court, for exposing his clerk’s wrongdoing, describing his conduct as “honest, courageous, and worthy of emulation.”
Reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on corruption, the JSC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding integrity, discipline, and transparency across the state’s judicial system.
