The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project in Kano State has increased the annual Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) for female secondary school students from ₦20,000 to ₦60,000 per beneficiary.

Supported by the World Bank, the AGILE project aims to boost access to quality secondary education for girls, especially in underserved communities.

The initiative also now includes People with Disabilities (PWDs) as beneficiaries.

Speaking during a sensitisation campaign in Bebeji Local Government Area, the Kano State CCT Coordinator for AGILE, Malam Naziru Surajo, revealed that the number of beneficiaries has risen to 52,320 students across 19 participating LGAs, up from 45,850 due to the inclusion of PWDs.

Bebeji LGA alone has 4,984 girls currently benefiting from the programme.

Malam Surajo also noted that girls’ enrollment in junior and senior secondary schools has increased by 31% since the introduction of the CCT.

He stressed that beneficiaries must maintain at least 70% school attendance to continue receiving the support.

Also speaking at the event, the National CCT Coordinator of AGILE, Dr. Kubrah Muhammad, urged parents and stakeholders to ensure proper use of the funds and help promote the programme across communities to maximize its impact on girls’ education.
