Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reiterated his commitment to strengthening grassroots governance by endorsing a bill that seeks to grant full autonomy to all 44 local government councils in the state.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Friday, the governor gave his support during the 31st Executive Council meeting held at the Government House Annex in Kwankwasiyya City, where the council approved the transmission of the bill to the State House of Assembly for consideration.

Governor Yusuf explained that the proposed law will empower local governments with both financial and administrative independence, allowing them to manage resources directly, implement projects without delays, and make decisions that address the needs of their communities.

He emphasized that local government autonomy is vital for good governance, accountability, and accelerated grassroots development, describing the reform as a crucial step toward deepening democracy in the state.

The Governor also expressed optimism that the State House of Assembly would support the bill, noting that it aligns with the collective interest of the people of Kano.
