The Kano State Commissioner of Finance, Dr. Isma’ila Aliyu Danmaraya has sought the support of development partners toward the Organizational Capacity Assessment of his ministry.
During a meeting in his office with representatives of, the Commissioner stated that the aim was basically to identify priorities for capacity building as well as identify strengths and weaknesses of the Ministry.
“When I came to the Ministry, I identified that there are capacity gaps and we need to bridge those gaps to improve our operations and performance”, he maintained.
When the needs assessment is done, it will be followed by a capacity improvement strategy, leading to a clear roadmap for the development of the Ministry.
In this regard, Dr. Danmaraya said the “system strengthening approach” he envisaged can only be realized with the support of organizations that provide development assistance.
The Commissioner, therefore, urged donor organizations working in the state especially, UNICEF, PLANE, PACE, LAFIYA Project, and PropComPlus (funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth and Development Office, FCDO), to support his ministry towards driving change.
Speaking separately, representatives of UNICEF, PLANE, PACE, LAFIYA Project and PropcomPlus, promised to continue to support the state government not only towards capacity building but also making life better for people.
They, however, sought closer working relationships with different arms of the government as well as proactive coordination of their activities for better results.
