Kano Executive Council Approves N19 Billion for Key Projects

The Kano State Executive Council has approved a total of N19,019,114,578.50 for the execution of developmental projects across various sectors of the state’s economy.

The approval was granted during the 33rd meeting of the State Executive Council, held on Saturday, 1 November 2025, at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano.

The meeting was presided over by the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the meeting deliberated on critical governance and development issues affecting the state and took key policy decisions aimed at enhancing service delivery and infrastructure growth.

Education Sector

A total of N4.93 billion was approved for projects under the Ministries of Education and Higher Education.

These include N308.9 million for outstanding liabilities to the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), N1.49 billion for the settlement of debts owed to boarding school feeding suppliers, N2.54 billion for renovation of Government Technical College, Ungogo (Phase II), and N400 million for procurement of office furniture and fittings at Northwest University.

Other approvals cover accreditation exercises at Kano State Polytechnic, completion of an e-library at the Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies, and production of instructional materials at the Kano Printing Press.

Health Sector

To boost healthcare delivery, the Council approved N274.08 million for the renovation and upgrade of key health facilities, including Tiga General Hospital and Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, Kofar Kudu, within the Emir’s Palace.

Water Resources Sector

Under the Ministry of Water Resources, N3.34 billion was approved for improving water supply and energy management.

This includes N915 million for the construction of a water treatment plant at Taliwaiwai in Rano Local Government Area, N1.75 billion for payment of fuel supply debts, and N670 million for KEDCO electricity bills covering three months.

Works and Infrastructure

The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure received the largest share, with N9.85 billion approved for various road, flood control, and renovation projects.

Key projects include N2.63 billion for the construction of the Dambatta–Gwarabjawa Road, N388 million for flood control works at Baban Gwari Roundabout, N393 million for general renovations at the Ministry of Works, N2.47 billion for installation of 4-way intersection traffic lights across major roads, and N339 million for solar-powered streetlights at Kwankwasiyya City.

Power and Renewable Energy

The Council also approved N979.89 million for solar energy projects under the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, including N840 million for a 150KW solar backup system at Africa House, Government House.

Other Approvals

  • N149.29 million was approved for Hajj operations under the Office of the Deputy Governor.
  • N126 million for the procurement of three Toyota Hilux vehicles for official duties under the Secretary to the State Government.
  • N586.51 million for the construction of a weighbridge at Doguwa Local Government and five major entry points into Kano State under the Ministry of Mineral Resources.

The Council also approved the construction of 50 low-cost houses across 36 Local Government Areas outside the metropolis to provide affordable housing, acquisition of majority shares in KEDCO, to boost energy sufficiency and promote industrial growth, and the presentation and adoption of the Kano State Electricity Policy under the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy.

Recognitions and Awards

The Council acknowledged the recent national and international awards received by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in recognition of his leadership and service to humanity. These include:

  • Gold Medal of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, presented by President Umarou Sissoco Embaló.
  • Zamka Award 2025 for service to humanity.
  • Award of Excellence by the Nigeria Union of Public Service Secretarial and Allied Workers.
  • Corporate Partner of the Year by the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers.
  • Distinguished Governor Award by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
  • Recognition for Distinguished Service by ANHI Consults International.
  • 4th Best Performing State Award on Climate Governance (2025).
  • Education Ambassador Award by Independent Newspaper.

The statement emphasized that the decisions and approvals from the meeting reflect Governor Yusuf’s administration’s unwavering commitment to advancing infrastructure, promoting quality education, improving healthcare, expanding access to clean water, and enhancing power generation for sustainable development.

It reaffirmed the government’s focus on transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in the living standards of the people of Kano State.
