Kano State Government has donated N2 million and assorted relief items to support persons living with spinal cord injuries as part of activities marking the 2025 International Spinal Cord Injury Day.
According to the Chairman of the Spinal Cord Injuries Association, Kano Chapter, Abdulrahman Uba Daushe, the donation, made through the Ministry of Women Affairs, Children, and Persons with Special Needs, was presented by the Commissioner, Amina Sani Abdullahi.
Items distributed included wheelchairs, diapers, wound dressings, catheters, urine bags, antiseptics, and other essential supplies.
Abdullahi described the commemoration as a moment of awareness, reflection, and solidarity, while reaffirming the state government’s commitment under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
She disclosed that plans were underway to establish a Commission for Persons with Special Needs to ensure representation and equal opportunities across the state.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, restated the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups, while the ALGON Chairperson, represented by Ajingi LGA Chairman, Professor Abdulhadi Zubairu Chula, lauded the resilience of spinal cord injury survivors.
The event, attended by dignitaries including the Emir of Kano’s representative, Dr. Bashir I. Mohammed, and academics from Bayero University Kano and Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, featured awards for excellence in education, philanthropy, leadership, and vocational skills.
As part of the intervention, 300 association members and their caregivers received N5,000 each for transportation support.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Kano State Spinal Cord Injuries Association, Abdulrahman Uba Daushe, hailed the government’s gesture as a genuine show of concern for the well-being of persons with disabilities, praising both the authorities and families who continue to support survivors.
