A Magistrate Court in Kano has ordered the remand of popular TikTok personality Ashiru Idris, widely known as Mai Wushirya, over the alleged posting of “indecent videos” featuring a dwarf woman.
Presiding Magistrate Halima Wali directed that the social media influencer be kept at a correctional centre for two weeks pending further hearing on the case.
Mai Wushirya was arrested last week by officials of the Kano State Censorship Board after videos of him and the woman went viral, sparking outrage and accusations of indecency.
The Censorship Board said the content violated state laws that prohibit the production and distribution of obscene or sexually suggestive materials.
Speaking after the court session, the Board’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, confirmed the ruling and added that the court had also directed the appearance of the woman featured in the videos before the next hearing.
He stated, “The court has ordered that his partner appear before it as proceedings continue.”
The case has reignited public debate in Kano over the enforcement of moral standards on social media and the extent of state regulation of online content.
