Kano Community Raises Alarm Over Impassable Road Ahead of Rainy Season

Editor

Tension is mounting in the Kazaurawa/Unguwar Ganji community of Rano Local Government Area, Kano State, as the rainy season approaches.

The only road connecting the area to neighboring communities has deteriorated severely, sparking fears of isolation, economic hardship, and restricted access to essential services.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, the Speaker of Rano Local Government Council, Hon. Ahmed Abdullahi Jibrin, expressed deep concern over the road’s condition.

“The current state of the road has made life extremely difficult for our people, especially during the rainy season,” he said.

“It becomes nearly impassable, cutting off access to hospitals, markets, schools, and preventing farmers from transporting their produce. This directly threatens their livelihoods.”

He appealed to both state and federal governments for urgent intervention, stressing that the community’s safety and economic survival depend on the reconstruction of the road.

Supporting the call, community elder Alhaji Wada Kazaurawa highlighted the road’s critical importance, noting that it connects at least seven communities, from Rurum town to Bakin Fa, Kazaurawa Ghana, Gunduma, Gidan Ganji, Bul, and Saya Saya, and extends to Kibiya and Tudun Wada Local Government Areas.

He further revealed that construction work on two key bridges along the route was abandoned roughly 14 years ago, with tragic consequences.

“Many pregnant women have lost their lives because they could not be transported to healthcare facilities in time,” he lamented.

Residents are urgently calling on the relevant authorities to prioritize the road’s rehabilitation before the rainy season fully sets in.

They warn that further delays could result in worsening hardship, increased accidents, and the deepening isolation of the affected communities.
