Kano State Government has banned the dumping of waste at the New Court Road site as part of measures to curtail the spread of diseases at the site and its environs.
The move is also a part of efforts to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable waste management practices.
The State Commissioner of Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, disclosed on Tuesday during his visit to the New Court Road refuse dump site.
Dr. Hashim expressed concerns about the environmental and health implications of improper waste disposal at the site which may cause significant risks to the safety of the people in the area and of course people passing by.
He said the government is doing everything possible to ensure effective waste management strategies to protect public health and the environment.
The Commissioner also used the opportunity to appeal to the people in the area henceforth to desist from dumping any refuse at the site for their good instead they should move to Sallari for dumping of their waste.
He directed for the immediate evacuation of the accumulated waste in the area and reiterated the state government’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges, including climate change.
Dr. Hashim highlighted the state’s initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development and environmental sustainability.
He further highlighted the state government’s readiness to promote cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environments for all.
