Kano State House of Assembly has passed the re-committal Kano State Centre for Disease Control Bill 2023, marking a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen its public health infrastructure.
The re-committal bill, which was passed after the third reading and deliberations on Tuesday, aims to establish a center for disease control in Kano State.
The passage of this bill is a notable achievement.
Kano State is the first state in Nigeria to pass a public health security bill into law.
The bill provides a framework for public health surveillance, emergency management, and the protection of healthcare workers during crises.
In addition to passing the Kano State Centre for Disease Control Bill, the State Assembly also adopted a report on the screening and confirmation of the chairperson and members of the Kano State Civil Service Commission.
The three nominees, Ladidi Garko, Abdullahi Muhammad Umar, and Ado Ahmad Muhammad, were carefully scrutinized and recommended for appointment.
Other bills that scaled the first reading include the Kano State Signage and Advertisement Establishment Bill 2025, the Kano State Physical Planning and Development Control Bill 2025, and the Kano State Water Users Association WUAN Bill 2025.
The house adjourned its sitting to Monday, 27 January 2025.
