Kano Approves N54.8bn for Major Infrastructure, Education, Security-related Projects

The Kano State Executive Council (SEC) has approved a total of N54,798,217,384.19 for the execution of multiple developmental projects across key sectors, following its 34th meeting held on Thursday, at Government House, Kano.

A statement by the Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the approvals, which cut across education, health, works, housing, water resources, local government infrastructure, and public procurement, reaffirm the administration’s commitment to infrastructural expansion, institutional strengthening, and enhanced service delivery.

According to the statement, the Council approved N4,680,187,008.16 for projects aimed at rehabilitating and expanding learning facilities.

These include renovation works at Government Technical Colleges in Dambatta and Ungogo, renovation of Falgore Primary School, furniture procurement for 13 LGAs, and outstanding payments for furnishing 34 school libraries.

The SEC also reaffirmed support for the take-off of Gaya Polytechnic through related construction works.

The sum of N345 million was approved for operational vehicles to support the implementation committee overseeing the establishment of Gaya Polytechnic.

To strengthen primary healthcare and immunization services, Council approved funding for routine immunization activities for Q4 2025 and renovation, construction, and equipment procurement for PHCs in Malikawa Garu and Malikawa Sarari, Bichi LGA.

For water production across the state, approvals include the settlement of outstanding energy bills to KEDCO and multiple diesel supply contracts to ensure uninterrupted power for waterworks operations.

The Works sector received the largest share, with approvals covering major road rehabilitations, new road construction, bridge works, upgrades to government facilities, traffic light installations, surveillance gadgets, and further works on the Governor’s Wing.

Key allocations include N5.28bn for a 3-span bridge along Rogo–Gwangwan–Sundu Road, N4.98bn for Rano–Saji road construction, N3.98bn for rehabilitation of Sokoto and Iyaka Roads, N3.55bn for Independence Road rehabilitation

Others are N3.29bn for Gama Road Network, N3.19bn for take-off facilities at Gaya Polytechnic, N2.61bn for reconstruction of Sarkin Yaki Road, and N2.24bn for Sabuwar Tasha–Gwarzo Road link

Additional projects covering courts, Governor’s Lodge renovations, surveillance systems, and furniture procurement.

The Council approved funding for establishing an Emergency Operations Centre, construction of the Chief Judge’s residence, renovation of the MAKIA Protocol Lounge, construction of new courtrooms and offices, review of Islamiyya School project contracts, and Local Government Projects

A major allocation of N5.56 billion was approved for completing the 5km dualized road and additional road networks in Gaya Town, Gaya LGA.

Other Key Approvals includes N150 million for settling liabilities owed to Royal Tropicana Hotel and  N385.6 million for Phase I of the state’s electronic procurement software

The SEC Condemns Alleged Militia Plans, Calls for Investigation

It expressed serious concern over statements credited to former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, alleging plans to recruit 12,000 individuals for a religious militia known as Khairul Nas.

The Council described the comments as “inflammatory and capable of endangering public safety,” noting that bandit attacks occurred within 48 hours of the remarks.

It resolved to commend the Federal Government and security agencies for continued support, request immediate investigation and arrest of former Governor Ganduje over the alleged militia formation attempt, caution public figures against divisive statements, reassure citizens of government’s dedication to peace and security

The SEC reaffirmed the December 31 deadline for allottees to take possession of their houses and commended those who have complied.

Multiple professional bodies and organizations presented awards of excellence to the Governor, including the Association of Chairmen of Local Government Service Commissions, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Society of Nigerian Broadcasters, Primary Health Care Coordination Forum, Nigerian Dental Association, Kano Correspondents’ Chapel, Kautal Pulaku Fulbe Association (Bauchi)

Others recognizing him as Best Performing Northern Governor (2025)

The Council stated that the approvals and resolutions underscore the administration’s commitment to infrastructure growth, improved governance, enhanced service delivery, and strengthened security across Kano State.
