Media Correspondents in Kogi State, under the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), have pledged support for enhanced tax education to boost government revenue collection.

The commitment came during a stewardship forum organised by the chapel in collaboration with the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), as part of ongoing engagements to strengthen tax administration in the state.

Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel, Mr. Segun Salami, commended the leadership of KGIRS under its Executive Chairman, Sule Salihu Enehe, for what he described as “transformative leadership and excellent media relations.”

He assured that journalists in the state would intensify efforts to provide fair and balanced coverage of the agency’s activities while also offering media oversight to highlight its challenges, achievements, and impact.

In his remarks, Enehe urged residents of Kogi to embrace prompt tax payment, noting that it remains the backbone of government development efforts.

He explained that since assuming office in 2021, KGIRS had grown the state’s monthly internally generated revenue from N750 million to N3 billion through reforms such as automated taxation and a central billing system.

Enehe stressed that prompt tax compliance would empower the state government to implement more people-centered projects, reduce leakages, and accelerate socio-economic development.
