Johnny Depp, 61, is stepping away from acting with the opening of his new exhibition, “A Bunch of Stuff.”
According to the description, it’s a “immersive exhibition showcasing Johnny Depp’s artwork for the first time”—art that Depp claims he hadn’t originally intended to make public.
“I guess the idea is just to kind of walk through a bunch of things that have been, you know, lying around for years, paint something,” he remarks. “I’m heading to the garage or something,” the speaker said. “They were just for me, something to do; I never really had any particular plans on showing them.”
The exhibition’s official website states that it is intended to serve as a guide to viewers through the different phases of Depp’s life, as well as his creative process.
“It is an exhibition that is about art, about his art practice, his creative process,” explains art consultant Anne-Sophie Villemin. And it’s packed full of stuff, so in addition to a lot of art, there are lots of other items, accoutrements, and other details that all contribute to the narrative we’re attempting to convey.
Villemin notes that ‘A Bunch of Stuff,’ billed as a’multimedia show,’ mostly consists of passages taken from Depp’s diaries, dating back to his adolescent years.
“He used to journal when he was a teenager, which is where the majority of the works are on paper,” she explains. It’s a really impromptu medium that provides him with a lot of that. Additionally, I believe that his work is really characterized by this very spontaneous, unprepared process.’
The exhibition is located in New York, on 600W 27th street at 11th avenue.
