Jigawa State Government has launched a comprehensive Ramadan welfare program aimed at easing the burden of the fasting season on civil servants, students, and vulnerable residents, with a target of distributing more than eight million meals across the state.

Governor Umar Namadi unveiled the initiative at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Dutse during the official flag-off ceremony for the distribution of food items to civil servants.

He commended workers in ministries, departments, and agencies for their dedication to duty, describing the intervention as part of his administration’s annual commitment to supporting public servants.

According to the Governor, the Ramadan feeding scheme is already operational in about 640 centres spread across the state’s 287 political wards.

Each centre is providing daily meals to at least 420 beneficiaries, a structure designed to ensure that over eight million meals are served during the holy month.

Beneficiaries receive meals made up of Jollof rice, Kunu, and Kose, carefully selected to provide nourishment and reduce the strain on fasting families.

Governor Namadi noted that beyond social support, the initiative is stimulating local economic activity. By engaging nearly 6,000 vendors, cooks, and supervisors, the program is creating temporary employment opportunities and boosting small businesses within communities.

In a related development, the governor announced the commencement of food distribution to Tsangaya (local Qur’anic) schools across the state.

A total of 562 Tsangaya schools across the 27 local government areas are expected to benefit from the exercise, which will continue until July.

Describing Ramadan as a period of reflection, sacrifice, and compassion, Namadi said the program reflects his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers and vulnerable citizens.

“It became necessary to provide these essential items at this time to support our hardworking civil servants and their families,” he stated.

He urged residents to uphold the values of kindness, generosity, and unity during the holy month, encouraging citizens to strengthen community bonds through acts of goodwill.

The governor added that the Ministry of Social Duties and Humanitarian Affairs, in collaboration with the Office of the Head of Civil Service, would ensure a seamless and transparent distribution process.

Reaffirming his administration’s focus on peace and development, Namadi described the Ramadan welfare initiative as a clear demonstration of the government’s resolve to improve the quality of life for people across Jigawa State.
