Jigawa: Over 250,000 Children Immunized in Kaugama During Integrated Vaccination Campaign

No fewer than 250,750 children have been successfully immunized during the recently concluded Integrated Vaccination Campaign in Kaugama Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The Local Immunization Officer, Muhammad Tasiu, disclosed that 99,213 children aged 9 months to 14 years were vaccinated against Measles and Rubella, achieving 105% coverage across the local government area.

He added that 74,401 children aged 0–23 months received the Novel Oral Polio Vaccine (nOPV2), also recording 102% coverage, while another 74,401 children aged 0–59 months were immunized with the Bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine (bOPV), maintaining a 102% coverage rate.

In addition, 2,735 girls aged 9 years were vaccinated against Human Papillomavirus (HPV) to prevent cervical cancer.

Speaking during the review of the exercise, Health Promoter Umar Auyo commended stakeholders for their commitment and active participation, which contributed greatly to the success of the campaign.

Also commenting, the Primary Health Care Coordinator of Kaugama, Audu Aliyu Karkarna, praised the Chairman of Kaugama Local Government, Hon. Usman Masaki Dansule, for his continuous support toward healthcare initiatives in the area.

He further applauded the chairman for renovating the Primary Health Care office in Kaugama, providing a more conducive working environment for health personnel.

Karkarna called for sustained collaboration among community leaders, health workers, and development partners to further enhance immunization coverage and strengthen primary healthcare delivery in the area.
