Jigawa LG Election Peaceful, Low Turnout

The Jigawa state local government council election was conducted peacefully but was characterized by a low turnout of the voters and a delay in delivering election materials.

While monitoring the 5th October 2024, Local Government Council Election exercise our source observed that, at most of the polling units voter turnout was very low while in some places the election had not commenced as of 10:00 am due to late delivery of election materials.

However, Stallion Times observed that by noon the turnout increased in some polling units as the election was going on peacefully across all the 27 local government areas of the state.

In Jahun local government local government, the election commenced very early in some pooling units, as some residents claimed to have cast their votes as early as 09:00 am.

In his comment shortly after casting his vote at Imam Hassan polling Units of Kafin Hausa local government the state governor Malam Umar Namadi expressed his appreciation for voters’ turnout and peaceful conduct of the campaign and election exercise.

Governor Namadi said the peaceful conduct of the exercise was a clear demonstration of the confidence the people of Jigawa state have in democracy and the State Independent Electoral Commission.

While speaking to press men, the former Chairman of Dutse Local Government, Hon. Abdulaziz Dankofa complained that as of 09:30 the election materials were not delivered to any pooling units in Madobi and Kudai wards of Dutse local government where their party PDP field candidates for councillorship.

In Miga Local Government, the Speaker State House of Assembly Rt Honourable Haruna Aliyu Dangyating cast his votes around 10:00 am at his pooling units in Dangyating and expressed satisfaction with voter turnout and JISEC arrangements.

For New Nigerian People Party member in Hadejia local government Mustapha Shehu said they are monitoring the election and their leaders will announce their stand with regards to the conduct of the election exercise

The state Commissioner for Local Government, Hon. Ahmed Maikudi MK described the election as peaceful and satisfactory.

“Going by the peaceful conduct of the exercise and the candidate field by my party and other parties I am confident that at the end of the exercise, my party All Progressive Congress will win all the seats of the 27 local government and their councilors in the state” MK stated.

As of the time of filing this story, the election is ongoing across all the 27 local government areas of the state.
