The Jigawa State Government has introduced a new initiative aimed at improving healthcare delivery, particularly for rural communities and vulnerable residents across the state.
The program, known as the Jigawa Health Equity Fund (J-HEF), is part of the “Jigawa Healthcare for All” vision and is designed to provide free medical services to less privileged citizens and those with serious health conditions requiring urgent support.
The scheme will be implemented at the local government level to ensure wider reach and grassroots impact.
Speaking on the development, the Secretary of the J-HEF Committee and Primary Health Care Coordinator, Abdu Aliyu Karkarna, said the committee consists of 15 members.
These include the Local Government Council Chairman as Chairman of the committee, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health Monitoring as Vice Chairman, and the Primary Health Care Coordinator as Secretary.
Other members include traditional leaders, religious figures, security personnel, women representatives, and civil society organisations.
The committee is responsible for identifying, selecting, and registering beneficiaries of the program.
Those eligible for free healthcare under the Jigawa Health Equity Fund include People living with HIV/AIDS, Persons with sickle cell disease, Pregnant women, Children under five years, People with disabilities, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups
Inaugurating the committee in Kaugama Local Government Area, the Council Chairman, Hon. Usman Masaki Dansule, urged members to carry out their duties with honesty, transparency, and compassion.
He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting the program, noting that healthcare is a key priority in Governor Umar Namadi’s 12-point development agenda.
He also assured the committee of the local government’s full cooperation to ensure the success of the initiative and improve access to quality healthcare for all residents of Jigawa State.
