Jigawa High Court Acquits Armed Robbery Suspect Over Lack of Evidence

Editor

The Jigawa State High Court No. 11, sitting in Ringim, has discharged and acquitted Isah Usman, popularly known as “Nigger,” of charges bordering on criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

Usman was previously arraigned for allegedly participating in an armed robbery on February 2, 2020, in Chaichai Tsohuwa Village, Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

In delivering the verdict, Justice Muhammad El-Usman ruled that the prosecution failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. The judge noted that only one witness was presented by the prosecution, and no exhibits were submitted as evidence.

Justice El-Usman further emphasized that the prosecution’s failure to call the two alleged victims of the robbery to testify significantly weakened their case. As a result, the court had no basis to convict the defendant and therefore acquitted him of all charges.
