The Coalition of Jigawa North-East Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) has expressed its appreciation for the rehabilitation of the Marawaji Bridge in Kiri-Kasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa State, describing the intervention as a positive step toward improving connectivity and supporting local economic activities.
Marawaji and its surrounding communities are widely recognised as agriculturally productive areas that also face infrastructural challenges.
The Marawaji Bridge remains a strategic asset, serving as a critical link for several villages and towns that rely on it for transportation, access to markets, and the movement of agricultural produce throughout the year.
In a statement issued by the Coalition’s Coordinating Secretary, Malam Ahmad Aliyu, the group acknowledged the role of Senator Ahmed Abdulhamid Malam-Madori, who represents Jigawa North-East Senatorial District, in facilitating the rehabilitation of the bridge.
The Coalition recalled that during the 2025 Citizens’ Input Programme for the 2026 Annual Budget, the rehabilitation of the Marawaji Bridge featured prominently among the priority demands submitted by stakeholders and residents of the zone, reflecting its importance to the socio-economic development of Kiri-Kasamma Local Government Area.
The bridge, located near Marawaji village along the Hadejia River, connects the northern and southern parts of the local government, which are naturally separated by the river.
Its rehabilitation has improved accessibility and reduced the challenges previously faced by residents, particularly farmers and traders.
According to the Coalition, the intervention is timely, especially as communities in the area are currently engaged in wet-season farming activities that depend heavily on functional transport infrastructure.
While noting the significance of the rehabilitation work, the Coalition also urged the Federal and Jigawa State Governments to consider the construction of a permanent concrete bridge at the location to ensure long-term durability, enhance safety, and further promote sustainable economic growth in the area.
The Coalition reaffirmed its commitment to engaging public office holders and relevant authorities in advancing development initiatives that reflect the needs and aspirations of the people of Jigawa North-East.
