The wife of the Jigawa State Governor, Amina Umar Namadi, has led a breast cancer awareness walk in Dutse, calling on women across the state to prioritize regular medical screening for early detection and treatment of the disease.

The health walk, held on Sunday, was part of activities marking the 2025 World Breast Cancer Day under the theme: “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters.”

Participants marched across major streets in the Jigawa State capital to sensitize the public on the dangers of breast cancer and the importance of early diagnosis.

The event also featured a public lecture delivered by health experts who highlighted preventive measures and lifestyle choices that can reduce the risk of breast cancer, which claims thousands of lives globally every year.

In her address, Amina Namadi emphasized the need for regular medical check-ups, noting that early detection remains the most effective approach to managing breast cancer.

“The Jigawa State Government has upgraded over 180 primary healthcare facilities, alongside several secondary and tertiary centres, to ensure access to quality healthcare for all residents,” she said.

She further assured that the state government would continue to partner with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to expand awareness campaigns and improve access to affordable treatment for breast cancer patients.

Also speaking at the event, a medical expert, Dr. Halima Hashim, identified hereditary factors, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, and poor diet as major contributors to breast cancer.

She urged women to maintain healthy lifestyles and undergo regular screening to enhance early detection and improve survival rates.
