Jigawa farmers with support from the Federal Government, Flower Mills Association of Nigeria (FMAN), and state governments have planted over 80,000 Hecters of Wheat in this year 2025 season.
This was revealed during the 2025 Wheat Farmers’ Green Field Celebration held in Dabi village, Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State,
Speaking at the occasion the Federal Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Abubakar Kyari, described Jigawa State as a reliable partner in achieving national food security.
The Minister maintained that. Jigawa state has emerged as a leading producer of wheat in Nigeria and this remarkable achievement underscores our collaborated efforts in achieving national food security, economic transformation, and inclusive economic growth, for which teeming farmers would be among the major beneficiaries.
He recounted that during the 2023/2024 wheat production season, the Federal Government supported the cultivation of 40,000 hectares of wheat in Jigawa State, while the state government and other partners contributed to an additional 15,000 hectares, resulting in total production of over 55,000 hectares.
“In that year, the timely provision of inputs at subsidized prices, coupled with the commitment and resilience of the farmers, led to a bumper harvest,” he said.
“Following the success recorded in Jigawa State last season, the Federal Government agreed to increase its intervention and support to 60,000 hectares, while the state and other partners will cover an additional 20,000 hectares, bringing the total to 80,000 hectares”.
“Today, we are here to celebrate the cultivation of over 80,000 hectares of wheat, with more than 160,000 farmers supported through subsidized agricultural inputs”.
“In appreciation of the Jigawa State government and its farmers for their commitment to achieving national food security in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Federal Government has donated 10,000 water pump generators, 10,000 sprayers, 10,000 liters of insecticide, 10,000 liters of agro-fertilizer, and 10,000 liters of herbicides for free distribution to farmers. The Minister stated.
Governor Umar Namadi reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector, which he described as a cornerstone for achieving food security and prosperity in the state and the country.
He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Renewed Hope Agenda, which has led to groundbreaking agricultural innovations and milestones in achieving national food security.
“We assure President Bola Tinubu, our esteemed Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Abubakar Kyari, the Flour Mills Association of Nigeria (FMAN), and other partners of our commitment to enhancing wheat production and other crops for national growth and development,” Governor Namadi stated.
“In Jigawa State, we are targeting to expand our wheat production to 500,000 hectares by 2030, and we will partner with any potential collaborators to achieve this goal,” he declared.
