The Chairman of Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Hon. Najib Falalu Tukur Gantsa, has unveiled a landmark scholarship program, offering 144 slots to students from the area studying in higher institutions across the country.
Speaking to newsmen in his office in Buji on Friday, Hon. Gantsa said the initiative, the first of its kind since the creation of the local government, covers tuition and accommodation costs for off-campus students in Gumel, Ringim, Azare, Gwaram, Birnin Kudu, and Dutse.
According to the chairman, the move is aimed at easing financial burdens and supporting academic success.
While presenting Cheques to the beneficiaries, Hon. Najib emphasized that they were carefully selected from all ten electoral wards without political, ethnic, or family bias.
He further disclosed that this marks the sixth batch of scholarships, coming after earlier efforts that saw 100 students admitted to the Federal University, Dutse, and Jigawa State University, Kafin Hausa.
Additionally, 50 students previously received scholarships to pursue preparatory programs at the Federal University, Dutse, while another 50 gained direct admission to Jigawa State University.
Speaking at the launch, the coordinator of the Matawalle Educational Support Program, Malam Haruna Umar, commended the chairman’s commitment to education and urged students to uphold discipline and protect the image of BUJI wherever they study.
Similarly, the chairman of the BUJI Students’ Union, Comrade Ibrahim Mamuda Gantsa, hailed the gesture as proof that education remains a top priority for the local government leadership.
He assured that the union would monitor beneficiaries’ academic progress to ensure accountability.
