Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), in collaboration with the Malam Madori Local Government Council, has commenced siphoning excess rainwater from the overflowing Tumballe Pond in Malam Madori.

The pond, which fills every year during heavy rainfall, poses a serious threat to nearby residential houses and government properties.

This year’s intervention followed monitoring visits and urgent action by state officials led by the Special Adviser on Community and Inclusion, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, and local government authorities.

Speaking on the development on Tuesday, the Special Adviser on Community and Inclusion, Hamza Muhammad Hadejia, explained that the Jigawa State Government annually deploys heavy-duty water pump engines to reduce the volume of contaminated water from the pond.

He noted that the measure is designed to mitigate the risk of backflow into residential areas such as Kampala Quarters, which could damage homes and endanger lives.

Also commenting, the Senior Special Adviser to the Malam Madori Council Chairman on New Media and Domestic Affairs, Abba Abdullahi Maigoro, disclosed that the Council Chairman, Salisu Sani Garun-Gabas, has procured drums of diesel to power the water pump engines daily.

He added that the chairman has pledged to provide an additional long rubber siphon to channel the contaminated water safely into the countryside.

Maigoro further recalled that the council chairman had earlier directed the Department of Water and Sanitation to evacuate drainages, culverts, and filthy areas across Malam Madori, Garun-Gabas, and Waje District to forestall possible flood disasters.
