Member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, has reacted to his expulsion from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), describing the decision as shocking and taken without fair hearing.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Jibrin said he was surprised by the party’s action, stressing that his recent interview in English and Hausa did not warrant such a penalty.
“I strongly believe the contents of the interview I granted should not attract expulsion because it aligns with the principles of our party which allow dissenting views. No invitation was extended to me to defend myself, thereby neglecting the principle of fair hearing and due process,” he said.
Jibrin explained that although he would have preferred to remain in the NNPP, he has accepted the party’s decision “in good faith and without grudges.” He, however, noted that the expulsion could have been avoided if the proper processes were followed.
On allegations of non-payment of dues, the lawmaker maintained that he had never refused to meet his financial obligations. “I respectfully request the party to send me the invoice and I will promptly pay,” he stated, appealing for a peaceful parting without insults or personal attacks.
He also accused the NNPP of failing to acknowledge the political value of its members, saying: “The party does not believe anybody has political value and comes short in treating people with the respect they deserve. I am grateful to the Almighty for whatever value I have and will gladly invest it where it is appreciated.”
While thanking his supporters and the party for past cooperation, Jibrin announced that he would consult widely before deciding his next political destination.
“I welcome all my supporters who wish to join me in my new journey. For those who choose to remain in the NNPP, I hold no grudges. I will carefully weigh my options before deciding on my next political home. So help me God,” he said.
Jibrin’s exit adds to the turbulence within the NNPP, which has been battling internal wrangling in recent months.
