The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for completing the 2025 admission process into public universities to Monday, November 17, 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Board’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin.

According to the statement, the decision followed an appeal by the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU), which cited disruptions caused by a court order that temporarily halted the 2025/26 admissions. The order, JAMB said, was only lifted on October 28, 2025.

The Board also noted that the National Universities Commission (NUC) recently accredited 229 new programmes for 37 universities, and the inclusion of these new courses in the admission process necessitated more time for proper scheduling.

The statement read in part: “The 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held on July 18 under the chairmanship of the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, had fixed October 31, 2025, as the deadline for public universities to conclude admissions.

However, in light of emerging circumstances, the Board has extended the deadline to Monday, November 17, 2025.”

JAMB commended the diligence and commitment of public universities in meeting the earlier deadline but stressed that the new date is final and must be strictly adhered to.

“This extension aims to ensure fairness, inclusiveness, and the smooth integration of newly accredited programmes.

“The Board remains committed to a transparent and credible admission process that aligns with national education goals,” it added.

JAMB said the adjustment reflects its effort to manage unforeseen judicial and administrative delays while maintaining the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda of expanding access to higher education.

This development comes weeks after the Board, on September 18, 2025, extended the deadline for universities to submit Post-UTME screening scores of underage candidates who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

At that time, Dr. Benjamin explained that the decision, reached in collaboration with the affected institutions, was to help universities meet the overall admission timelines — October 30 for public universities and November 30 for private institutions.

With the new adjustment, all public universities are expected to finalize admissions no later than November 17, 2025, as JAMB works to regularize the 2025/26 academic session.
