Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is reportedly exploring a potential move away from the club this summer, raising eyebrows after being omitted from the squad for their pre-season tour of Asia.

The club attributed his absence to a “minor thigh injury” and confirmed a 30-man squad without the Swedish international. Despite this, reports suggest Isak is keen on taking the next step in his career, with top European clubs monitoring his situation closely.

BBC Sport sources indicate Liverpool remain interested in the 25-year-old, even after signing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial £69 million.

Manager Eddie Howe had previously stated that Isak would “absolutely” be part of the squad for matches in Singapore and South Korea. Speaking after Newcastle’s 4-0 defeat to Celtic on Saturday, Howe reiterated that Isak is happy at the club, but added: “It’s difficult to give 100% clarity on any player.”

Isak enjoyed a prolific 2023/24 season, netting 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions. Newcastle, however, have maintained the striker is not for sale.

Elsewhere, Lewis Hall returns to the tour squad after a long injury layoff, while Newcastle continue to explore attacking options, including Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.

Newcastle face Arsenal in Singapore on Sunday, followed by games against a K-League All-Star team on 30 July and Tottenham Hotspur on 3 August in South Korea.
